Justin Teodoro is a fashion designer, illustrator, artist, and pop culture wunderkind.
His work, which ranges from large-scale murals to iPhone covers, pays homage to things both young and old, then and now, gay and straight, beautiful and weird. Teodoro was born and raised in Canada before moving to NYC to attend Parsons, The New School for Design, where he studied Fashion. Soon after graduating he secured a designer position with contemporary fashion label Cynthia Steffe and currently continues to work as a designer for Kenneth Cole. A prolific artist by nature, Teodoro incorporates his experiences in the fashion world into his daily drawings, as well as a multitude of additional resources including art historical figures, like David Hockney, to friends and family.
For his ongoing series ‘The People I Know,’ Teodoro visually documents the accomplishments and challenges of his friends in NYC, including Alexa Galler, owner of start-up fashion label Eighteenth, whom he also collaborated with on unique projects for the company, such as an illustrated look book. This series, as much of his work, has an optimisticfeel, nostalgic and respectful of the past while embracing the future. This sentiment is echoed in his blog, where Teodoro naturally embraces the medium as part of his artistic expression. The blog is an extension of his Art, or a ‘behind the scenes’ look at his artistic process, where one can find vintage Versace ads, the latest runway looks, and an old Seinfeld video clip existing alongside each other.
